Troubleshooting
Member can't check in: troubleshooting badge scans
When a scan doesn't check someone in, NestPoint almost always tells you why right there on the screen. Match the message you see to the list below — most of these are a ten-second fix.
Start with the message on screen
The scan result names the reason it didn't go through. Here's what each one means and what to do.
- Unrecognized badge code
- The code isn't linked to anyone in your workspace. Usually that's a brand-new card that hasn't been assigned yet, or a card that was replaced and retired. Assign it to the member and try again — see Assign or replace a badge.
- Member is inactive
- The person is in your roster, but their record is set to inactive, so it won't accept a check-in. Reactivate them from their profile, then scan again.
- Membership isn't valid at this location
- If you run more than one center, their membership doesn't cover the one you're at. Sell them a day pass to admit them, or update their membership to include this center.
- Already checked in
- Not really an error — they're already here. If it was a mistake, you can reverse it; see Undo a check-in or check-out.
If the scanner itself seems off
Type the code in by hand instead. If typing checks them in but scanning doesn't, the trouble is the scanner, not NestPoint: make sure your cursor is in the scan bar before you scan, and that the scanner is set to send an Enter after the code. A scanner that drops or adds a character will read as "unrecognized" every time.
