Add people and roles
Service Hours starts with two things: the people who contribute time, and the roles that describe the work they do. You add both under Resources, before anyone logs an hour.
Open Resources
From the module nav, open Resources. It holds two lists, People and Roles, each with its own count so you can see what's set up at a glance.
Add a person
Open People and press New person.
Enter a Display name and pick a Kind: Staff, Volunteer, Board, Intern, Contractor, Helper, Partner rep, or Other.
The kind shapes how a person's hours group in reports, and which compensation default applies.
Set a Default role and Default compensation if you'd like those pre-filled later, then press Create person.
Add a role
Open Roles and press New service role.
Give it a Name and a Color. Add a Default duration (min), Default location, or Report category if it helps.
Set the role's behavior with the four toggles, then press Create role.
Two of the four are in use today. The other two save fine, but nothing reads them yet.
- Requires approval
- Saved, but not in use yet. Whether hours wait for approval is set once for the whole workspace, under Settings, Approvals.
- Allow check-in / check-out
- Lets staff start and stop a live timer for this role. Only roles with this on appear in the Start serving list.
- Counts as volunteer time
- Includes the hours in the volunteer summary and the estimated volunteer value.
- Counts as staff time
- Saved, but not in use yet. The staff hours summary goes by the person’s kind, not by this switch.
